Additional Information:
Drysuits are typically purchased for long-term use, but wear and tear over time primarily affects neoprene and latex components. Damage to these parts can make the suit unusable at sea, necessitating either repairs or the purchase of a new suit. When repair is an option, using the correct materials and workmanship is essential.
Care and Maintenance:
- After use in the sea, the suit must be thoroughly rinsed with cold freshwater to remove salt, as leaving salt water to dry on the suit can have a significant degrading effect, particularly on neoprene and latex components.
- Hang the suit to dry by air circulation, ensuring no direct exposure to heat sources such as hairdryers, radiators, or sunlight. Both the inner and outer layers should be allowed to ventilate naturally.
- Once dry, latex components such as neck seals, wrist cuffs, and socks should be powdered to maintain flexibility.
- During the summer, store the suit in a well-ventilated area, ideally on a wide hanger that won’t damage the neck seal. The front zip should be left open to prevent stretching.
- For long-term storage, latex components should be generously powdered, and areas where latex surfaces meet should be separated with wax paper, then stored in a clear plastic bag to prevent sticking.
